Cuando maestro "Lázaro" inicia su clase, asistimos a un viaje en el tiempo; nos trasladamos y somos portadores 

de la esencia infinita que contiene su escuela.

 decisiva en el seno de la Escuela Cubana de Ballet, y por extensión, en el mundo de la danza universal".

Solo dancer for the Cuban National Ballet (CNB) since 1972 and principal dancer since 1976, recognized in the 5 continents playing the main roles of CNB extensive repertoire, as well as partner of Alicia Alonso and of great solo dancers from all over the world.
Among his numerous awards, it can be highlighted: in 1970, the first place in the youth category in Varna, Bulgaria; in 1972, Medal and Diploma in Pleven, Bulgaria; in 1973, the Special Prize to the Artistic Mastery and Diploma in Moscow; in 1974, the Silver Medal and Special Prize to the Artistic Mastery for the second time in Varna; in 1978, Medal of the Puerto Rican Bar Association; in 1980, Gold Medal for the Special Award to the Individual Excellence in male category in Tokyo (Japan); in 1983 he received two Special Awards: the Aldo Lotufo Gold Medal in male category and the Gold Medal in partner category in Brazil. As an artist, he has been honored with the highest award of Cuban Culture: THE NATIONAL MERIT MEDAL FOR CULTURE. All this makes him the Cuban dancer with the most awards in the history of dance in Cuba, and one of the most awarded in the world.
Dedicated to teaching, he obtained the title of Maître de ballet (ballet master) in 1976. Throughout his professional career he has combined, both his talent as a teacher, dancer and repeater of numerous choreographies, creating various works of classical style, specializing particularly in “Pas de deux”. He is the author of the manual “EL ARTE DEL PAS DE DEUX” (“The art of Pas de Deux”), regarding the execution of the pas de deux.
Among his many students, there is a high number of prominent figures that could be highlighted, such as José Manuel Carreño, Carlos Acosta, Jud Yanosvkl, Goyo Montero, Lienr Chang, Joan Boada, Julio Arozarena, Jesús Corrales…
He has performed his job as teacher of repertoire and guest professor worldwide, but the following institutions could be emphasized: the Cuban National Ballet School, Coven Garden of London (Royal Ballet), Paris Opera, American Ballet (New York), the Municipal Theatre of Santiago (National Opera of Chile) ballet, the Opéra National du Rhin Ballet (Mulhouse, France), the Spanish National Dance Company during the time of Nacho Duato as director, the Toronto Ballet, Magda Auñon School of Classical Ballet in Ford Lauderdale (Florida), the Grand Theater in LÓDZ (Poland), the Municipal Theatre of Río de Janeiro, the Royal Professional Conservatory of Dance in Madrid, María Ávila Superior Dance Conservatory, the Institute of the Arts in Barcelona and Dance School Juan Antxieta in Bilbao. Also, it should be outlined his role as professor and advisor of the Alicia Alonso Chair in Dance of the Complutense University in Madrid as well as his position of artistic advisor of Centro Autorizado de Danza Hélade. From 2003 to 2009 he was hired by the Houston Ballet as “Principal Teacher and Coach” and in 2010 he worked as a dance teacher for Ángel Corella’s company “Ballet Castilla y León”. Since 2012 he has been a guest professor at the International Contest of Choreography Burgos-New York and guest professor in the main training centers of Europe and America, as well as in ballet companies from all over the world.
“When master “Lázaro” begins his class, we attend a journey in time; we move and we are carriers of the infinite essence that contains his school”. 
As quoted by the journalist and dance critic Mr. Jesús Dueñas Becerra: “the surname Carreño plays a decisive role in the Cuban National Ballet School, and by extension, in the world of universal dance”.

Mayumi Sakamoto fue alumna de la bailarina y maestra Anastasya Bazhnatkina, estudiante de la bailarina del Teatro Kirov Elena Shiripina, estudiante de Agrippina Vaganova. 

También fue entrenada por el legendario y primer bailarin del Teatro Kirov , el gran maître Boris Bregvadze, Liudmila Sereshnikova y Bella Ozhegova, entre otros. Mayumi. Sakamoto posee una Maestría en Artes Coreograficas y enseñanza de Ballet de la prestigiosa Academia Rusa Agrippina Vaganova en donde sus maestros fueron: Pyotr Silkin, Vadim Sirótin, Natalya Yanánis, Margarita Alfímova, e Irina Trofímova. 

En 2018 diplomada en el estudio de posgrado de “Teoría e historia del arte” en la Academia de Ballet Agrippina Vaganova.
Actualmente trabaja en su tesis doctoral en la Academia de Ballet Agrippina Vaganova, bajo el tema: “Formación y desarrollo del arte del ballet en Cuba.
Ha publicado en el Boletín de la Academia de Ballet Agrippina Vaganova cuatro artículos sobre el Ballet cubano, tales como: “Las giras de Anna Pavlova en Cuba (1915-1919 )”, “Nikolay Yavorsky: el primer maestro ruso de ballet en Cuba”, “El milagro cubano: En el 70 aniversario de la creación del”Ballet Alicia Alonso” y “Lázaro Carreño” en el 50 aniversario de su carrera artística”. 

Tambien publicó en la Colección de los artículos de la V Conferencia Internacional científica-  “Las lecturas de Vaganova” el artículo, “Lázaro Carreño: el estudiante cubano en la Escuela Vaganova” efectuada en el museo de la Academia del Ballet Ruso Agrippina Vaganova.

Upon finishing his studies he joined the Camagüey National Ballet where he interpreted different contemporary and classical roles. On the following year he started dancing with the Cuban National Ballet, undertaking principal roles in a miscellaneous repertoire and obtaining excellent reviews worldwide.

The Mexican Bellas Artes Ballet, the American Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre, the French Arenas de Dimiez Festival, the Caracas International Ballet and the Brazilian Theatre Ballet of Rio have invited Careño as a guest dancer. He has enjoyed enormous success both with the public and the critics.

His extensive repertoire includes principal roles in the great classical tradition. Also, contemporary works by Cuban and foreign choreographers; such as: Mijail Lacopson, Anton Dolin, Brian MacDonald, Hilda Riveros, Alberto Mendez, Lic D'Laire, Atilio Lavis, Elsa Marianne Bone Rossen, Alberto Alonso y Alicia alonso.

He has danced alongside Alicia Alonso in: "El Torero de Carmen", "Dido Abandonada" (her own creation), "Roberto el Diablo" and "Cleopatra"

He has also been awarded The Cuban National Arts Medal, the highest artistic recognition in Cuba. He remains the most awarded Cuban dancer of all times.

MAITRE DE BALLET
Carreño's teaching career has been as remarkable as his dance. He first started teaching ballet in the Cuban Company back in 1972. Then, in 1976 he was granted the title of Maitre of Ballet.

Throughout his professional career he has combined his talent as a teacher, dancer and presenter of several dance pieces. He has staged different works in the classical style. Although he has specialised mainly in Pas de Deux, he has also taken on contemporary pieces.

For several years he taught dance at the Cuban National Ballet School. Indeed, he has trained many of today's most outstanding dancers in the international dance scene, including, among many others; José Manuel Carreño, Carlos Acosta, Yuri Yanosvki, Goyo Montero, Lienz Chang, Joan Boada, Julio Arozarena and Jesus Corrales.

1993-1996: Teacher at the Alicia Alonso dance course, Complutense University of Madrid.
1995: Guest dancer at the Santiago de Chile Municipal Theatre. Interpreting Don Jose in "Carmen"(choreographed by Ilda Reversos). He also collaborated in the re-staging of Jaime Segura's "Don Quixote"

Oct/96-Mar/97: Guest teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Dance in Madrid. Teaching Ballet Classical Duo and repertoire. Staging several pas de deux and Raymonda Grand pas for the choreographic workshop at the Conservatory.

Jan/1997: Guest teacher at the Rhine Opera Ballet in France.

Apr/1997: Guest teacher at the dance academy of the prestigious Spanish teacher Dona Maria de Avila in Zaragoza.

Oct/Nov/Dec/1997: Guest teacher at the Barcelona Theatre Institute directed by Catherine Allard.

Jan/1998: Appointed guest director to the Juan Anxieta Dance School in Bilbao.

Mar/Apr/1998: Guest teacher at the National Dance Company in Madrid, directed by dancer and choreographer Nacho Duato.

In 2010 he was hired as a dance teacher for the Angel Corella company "Ballet Castilla y León”.

Since 2012 he has been a visiting professor at the Burgos - New York International Choreography Contest where participating choreographers and dancers can take classes with the teacher.

Since 2015 the teacher Carreño. He has been attending different Aeropa and America training centers as well as Ballet Companies from all over the world.

Al concluir sus estudios pasa a formar parte del Ballet Nacional de Camagúey Interpretando diversos roles tanto en coreografías clásicas y contemporáneas. Allí permaneció un año. Al siguiente año se incorpora al Ballet Nacional de Cuba, con el cual viajó por los cinco continentes interpretando los roles principales de extenso repertorio del BNC, siendo merecedor en todos los lugares de inmejorables criticas. Sus Profesores durante sus estudios fueron, por orden de aprendizaje, entre otros: Alexander Sergueievich, Puschkin, Josefina Méndez, Ana Petrovna Sajjacva, Victor Mijaiiovlch, Tulublov Semenon, Solomonovich, Caplan entre otros…

Todo esto le hace ser el bailarín cubano con mas galardones en la Historia de la Danza en Cuba, y uno de los mas galardonados del mundo. 

En la rama de la docencia también destacó iniciándose como profesor un la compañía cubana desde el año 1972, pasando entonces a obtener el titulo de Maître de ballet en el año 1976. Durante toda su carrera profesional ha compaginado, tanto su talento como profesor, bailarín y repetidor de numerosas coreografías, montando diversas obras de estilo clásico, especializándose sobre todo en "Pas de deux", aunque no dejando nunca de lado las coreografías actuales. 

Durante varios años trabajó como profesor de la Escuela Nacional del Ballet de la Habana. Realizando varios cursos de graduación de donde salieron alumnos, hoy en día grandes figuras de la Danza actual internacional, como son José Manuel Carreño, Carlos Acosta, Jud Yanosvkl, Goyo Montero, Lienr Chang, Joan Boada, Julio Arozarena, Jesús Corrales y otros. Durante los cursos 1993 al 96, ha sido profesor y asesor de la Cátedra de Danza "Alicia Alonso" de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Durante 1996, fue artista invitado del Ballet del Teatro Municipal de Santiago de Chile, para interpretar el rol de Don José, en el Ballet Carmen, coreografía de Ilda Reveros y posteriormente como profesor de la citada compañía donde colaboró con la reposición del Ballet "Don Quijote", coreografía de Jaime Segura. 

Desde Octubre de 1996 hasta Marzo de 1997, ha sido profesor invitado del Real Conservatorio de danza de Madrid, donde ha impartido clases de Ballet, Dúo Clásico y repertorio, montando diversos pasos a dos y el "Grand Pas de Raimonda" para el Taller coreográfico de dicho conservatorio. Durante el mes de Enero de 1997, fue Invitado como profesor y asesor de Danza por el Ballet de la Opera del Rhin, Francia. En Abril de 1997 fue profesor invitado en la academia de danza de la prestigiosa profesora española Doña María de Avila en Zaragoza. Durante los meses de octubre, noviembre y diciembre de 1997 fue Invitado como profesor al Instituto del Teatro de Barcelona y a la recién creada compañía de dicho instituto bajo la dirección de Catherine Allard.



En enero de 1998 fue nombrado Director invitado y asesor de La Escuela de Danza en Bilbao Juan Antxieta, lo cual alterna como profesor invitado del Real conservatorio de Danza en Madrid. Durante el mes de marzo y abril de 1998 es invitado como profesor a la Compañía Nacional de Danza de Madrid, la cual dirige el bailarín y coreógrafo Nacho Duato. En 1998, es requerido por el Ballet de Toronto, Canadá, para impartir clases magistrales a la citada compañía. Ese mismo mes, a finales, el centro Autorizado de Danza por el M.E.C, HÉLADE, de Burgos, España, pionero en la Región de Castilla y León, lo recibe como Maestro de Honor y le invita a que en un futuro marque las directrices del centro, durante este primer contacto entabla vínculos de trabajo con la Compañía de danza "Ballet Contemporáneo de Burgos".

En 1.999 asistió al American Ballet (Nueva York) como maestro Invitado. Ese mismo año fue requerido por la Ópera de LÓDZ (Polonia). Más tarde acudió al Ballet de Rhin, Moulouse (Francia).

Enero del 2.000, volvió a la Ópera de LÓDZ para el montaje de la reposición del Ballet "Coppelia". En Marzo viajo a Brasil invitado por el Teatro Municipal de Rio de Janeiro. Durante Mayo y Junio fue requerido por el Coven Garden de Londres, (Royal Ballet) como maestro invitado. Asistió por primera vez a lo cursos de verano en Vancouver (Canada) durante Julio y Agosto. Nueva petición en el mes de Noviembre por el Royal Ballet. En Diciembre regresó de nuevo a Vancouver, para asesorar el montaje coreográfico de Fin de Año.

Marzo y Abril del 2001 fue invitado por la Opera de París. Regresó al American Ballet en el mes de mayo para impartir clases a las dos compañías. En Julio de nuevo es invitado a los cursos de verano de Vancouver (Canada). Durante el mes de Septiembre fue invitado a impartir un curso en el Centro Magda Oñón en Ford Loderley (Florida).

Desde el 2.003 al 2.009 es contratado por el Houston Ballet como "Principal Teacher and Coach".

En el 2010 es contratado como maestro de danza para la compañía Angel Corella "Ballet Castilla y León".

Desde el 2012 es profesor invitado en el Certamen Internacional de Coreografía Burgos - New York en donde coreógrafos y bailarines participantes pueden tomar clase con el maestro. 

Desde 2015 el maestro Carreño asiste a diferentes centros de formación en Europa y América así como a Compañías de Ballet de todo el mundo.
