DANCE IN THE THEATER

‘Contemporary and Urban’

Principal Theater of Burgos. 

From July 27 to 29, 2022, at 8:00 p.m.

This competition is open to trends that cover lines of work from Graham, Limón or Cunningham to current neoclassicism, through styles, for example, such as Forsythe or Killyan, as well as the codes of movement present in Urban Dance and all its manifestations that converge in the so-called Scenic Hip-Hop, ultimately bringing together Contemporary and Urban Dance, works in competition where quality in innovation, mastery and composition of the movement prevails and those that are still in the experimental phase such as the so-called new trends. In short, this contest groups styles, trends and volumes of choreographic composition regardless of its interpretive aesthetics.


A maximum of 16 choreographies will be selected, which will compete for the € 27,000 prize money that is divided as follows:


€ 9,000. First prize

€ 6,000. Second prize

€ 4,000. Third award

€ 3,000. Fourth prize

€ 2,000. Fifth prize

€ 1,000. Audience award

€ 2,000. Award (JCDCYL)


Those works created expressly for the competition will have preference, that is to say that they suppose an absolute premiere. This selection will be made through the film material sent by the participants.


The works must not exceed 10 minutes, those that exceed these limits will be disqualified. It is open for works with a single dancer, duos or groups indistinctly, the maximum number of dancers per choreography will be 8. The competition will take place in 2 days, with 8 choreographies competing each day. On the third day (closing gala and awards ceremony) only the choreographies designated by the jury will dance in order to validate their scores and / or comparisons with the rest of the works in the competition.


The selected choreographers will be sent a commitment document that they must sign and re-deliver in which they agree to attend the competition, except for force majeure.


The 16 choreographies will be eligible for other prizes that also have financial remuneration such as hiring for tours, functions, selection for other festivals or artistic residencies.


Any other assumption not included in these rules will be resolved by the management of the Organizing Committee. Being selected in the competition implies acceptance of these rules and the general rules of the competition. Failure to comply may leave participants without scholarships for aid, travel, stay and the possibility of competing.

OPEN AIR DANCE

‘Dance on Camino de Santiago’ 

Camino De Santiago, passing through Castilla y León and Galicia

Organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Junta de Castilla y León and the management of the Contemporary Ballet of Burgos SL, on behalf of the Burgos & New York International Choreography Contest, with the collaboration of the Provincial Councils of Burgos, León and Palencia, and the contest of 9 town councils present, call for the choreographic contest "DANZA EN EL CAMINO"

    

Architecture and Dance, Music and Scenic Avant-garde, past and present surrender to this World Heritage Site. The works in competition will be inspired by the Jacobean Route of the Camino de Santiago, this creative breadth will allow to show from a space of personal and social learning, a formative, vital and experiential itinerary, passing through the lands and idiosyncrasies of our country, discovering or re-discovering our own internal geography. Therefore, the reasons for creating the work are infinite, so the choreographers must describe in a brief but concise way, on which they base, inspire, shape, in short, send us references that allow us to know how their work could be.


The choreographers must present visual material showing the style of their choreographic line, as well as a general idea about the choreography and its adaptation to what the Jacobean Route entails.


    The organization, depending on the material presented, will select three finalist choreographers. The play must last between 10 and 15 minutes. The choreography will be unpublished and expressly created for Danza en el Camino.


    The music of the works will be strictly live, and will feature interpreters or composers from Castilla y León and Galicia. Each choreographer will be provided with the musical theme.


JURY AND AWARDS

    

    The selected choreographers will receive a total of € 3,000 for the selected choreography.


    The jury will be different in each town, it will be popular and will be made up of inhabitants of the towns in the competition, pilgrims and the public attending to complete 20 people of all ages. Each Jury will manage a prize of € 1,000, in each town the winning choreographer and the order of the two remaining choreographers will be announced.


    At the end of the 12 calls, the choreographer with the highest number of spaces won will win the sum of € 6,000, the second with € 4,000 and the third with € 2,000. In the event of a tie, it would be divided into proportional parts. The total prize money amounts to € 21,000, including € 3,000 for each choreographer as finalist and selected.


    These choreographies also have the possibility to rotate in the agreements that the Bu-Ny contest maintains with the JCyL through the Network of Theaters and Circuits with the show “Choreographers of the XXI”, and they will also be able to opt for all the awards of the Bu-Ny Contest. -Ny.

‘Dancing with stones’

The competition "Dancing with Stones" is open to dance proposals of any choreographic language and style, created to be exhibited in public spaces and whose main engine is the use of open space and proximity to the public on foot. 


A maximum of 6 proposals will be selected, which will compete for the 3 cash prizes of the Contest and other prizes: contracts for tours, performances, selection for other festivals or artistic residencies.  


It is open to works with a single dancer, duets or groups indistinctly. This selection will be made on the basis of the film material sent by the participants.     

The works may not be longer than 10 minutes; those that exceed this limit will be disqualified. The maximum number of performers per choreography will be 8. 


The selected choreographers will be sent a document of commitment that must be signed and returned in which they commit to attend the competition, except in cases of force majeure. 


Any other case not included in these rules will be resolved by the Organizing Committee. Being selected in the competition implies the acceptance of these rules and the general rules of the competition. Failure to comply with them may leave the participants without the scholarships, travel, stay and the possibility of competing. 


The 6 choreographies will also have the possibility of touring in the agreements that the Bu-Ny contest has with the JCyL through the Red de Teatros y Circuitos with the show "coreógraf@s del XXI", and will also be eligible to be hired for tours, performances, selection for other festivals or artistic residencies.

‘Street Art’

1.- Street Art/ Muralism

01. Participation is open to individual artists and artistic collectives whose members are over 18 years of age, of all nationalities provided that they have done large format mural works before. 

02. The purpose of the competition is the artistic intervention of a mural work on a party wall (façade) of a building located on the street. 

03. The theme will deal with the world of dance, addressing possible concepts such as the body, movement and space.

04. The works must be original and unpublished, will not be accepted those that have been previously awarded or are awaiting the decision of a jury. The participant declares and guarantees to the organization that he/she is the sole owner of all copyrights on the work submitted to the contest and is fully responsible for the absence of third party rights in the works submitted, as well as any claim for image rights.

05. A proposal will be chosen from the different sketches attached to the registration form. The work will be carried out on the dates of the edition of the contest. 

06. The selected artist will be provided with a lifting platform, storage area and the necessary material for the execution of the mural, except for the paint. The materials will be supplied by the organization and the amount thereof may not exceed a limit agreed between the contest and the participant.

07. Once the registration period is closed, the participants will be notified of the jury's decision well in advance of the dates of the contest edition. 

08. If the organization considers that the final result of the work has changed excessively in relation to the initial sketch, it may take action on it.

09. The authors of the proposals submitted, will grant free but not exclusive rights of reproduction and public communication to the organization of the contest.

10. In case the works are used by the organization, they will always appear with the signature of the author. 

11. The organization will ensure the conservation of the works registered during this time, but is not responsible for any damage caused after the end of the competition.

The selected choreographers will be sent a document of commitment that must be signed and returned in which they commit to attend the competition, except in cases of force majeure.

URBAN ART

‘Movingspaces’

Online choreography contest recorded with  phone in social networks @cicbuny

From April 1 to July 1, 2022, both inclusive


The Burgos & New York Choreography Contest invites you to create your own choreography and share it with everyone. You can do it alone or with the help of your friends or family. It's very simple: film yourself anywhere (enclosed space, street, etc.), upload your video to your Facebook or Instagram profile and share it with our Social Networks tagging the contest (@cicbuny) and including the hashtag #movingspaces. 


Participation in this contest implies acceptance of the following rules:


1. Participation will be completely free and open to those over 14 years of age.

2. Participants may submit an unlimited number of works or choreographies recorded with their cell phones (smartphones).

3. The contest is open to any type or discipline of dance: contemporary, ballet, hip hop, dancehall, shuffle, urban dance, jazz, tap dance, afro, Latin dance, ballroom dance, pole dance, burlesque, Spanish dance, flamenco, folklore...

4. All persons or private spaces appearing in the videos must have given their express consent to the participants. In no case will be accepted creations or choreographies that violate the honor of a group, include discriminatory material and / or violate the rights or dignity of persons. The organization of the Contest reserves the right to exclude from the competition any work that violates the rights of third parties.

5. Choreographies must have a minimum duration of 30 seconds and may not exceed 60 seconds. The slogan of the contest, Movingpsaces, must appear expressly in the videos, either superimposed on the image or in the voice of the protagonists of the video.

6. The works submitted to the contest must be unpublished or, instead, free adaptations of choreographies created by others.

7. Participants must upload the video to their social profile on Facebook or Instagram, tag Certamen Internacional de Coreografía Burgos & Nueva York (@cicbuny) and include the hashtag #movingspaces.

The profiles must be open accounts so that other users can view the videos. Failing this, and in the case of Facebook, the publications of the videos in the competition must be configured as public.

8. The organization allows the use of editing programs that the participant considers appropriate.

9. Several prizes will be awarded. The first prize will be awarded by a jury made up of professionals linked to the world of dance. The second, third and fourth prizes will be awarded by the public through their votes.


- FIRST PRIZE: 400 euros

- SECOND PRIZE: 300 euros 

- THIRD PRIZE: 200 euros

- FOURTH PRIZE: 100 euros


The "Likes" or "I like" (also "I love", "I am am amused" and "I am amazed") received by each of the works submitted and duly labeled will be counted for the purpose of public votes.

10. The deadline for submission of entries will be from June 1 to July 1, 2022, inclusive.

11. The jury's decision will be announced through the Contest's profile on social networks on Friday, July 11, 2022 during the course of the day. For the purposes of public voting, Likes received up to 8 July 2022 at 9:30 noon will be counted.
