ALBERTO ESTÉBANEZ RODRÍGUEZ

He holds a degree in Dance Pedagogy and is a former dancer, choreographer, teacher, cultural manager and producer.

Founder of Ballet Contemporáneo de Burgos, now CIDANZ Producciones, the first professional dance company in Castilla y León, Alberto Estébanez also directs the Hélade Dance Centre, the first officially authorised dance centre in the region, the Young Dance Company of Castilla y León, and the Burgos & New York International Choreography Competition.


In 2002, together with Kazuko Hirabayashi, he created International Summer Dance, an international dance and choreography programme that continues to serve as a space for training, artistic exchange and professional development. In 2019, he launched Danza en el Camino, an itinerant festival linked to the Camino de Santiago, which now extends across Aragón, La Rioja, Castilla y León, Galicia and the Basque Country, with its annual closing event held in the Atrium of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.

He served as President of ARTESA, the Association of Performing Arts Companies of Castilla y León, from 2022 to 2025, and currently serves as President of the Association of Cultural and Creative Industries of Burgos. He is a member of the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts and currently serves as a member of the Dance Advisory Council of INAEM – Ministry of Culture, a position to which he was appointed in 2026. Over more than thirty years, his career has contributed to the professionalisation of dance in Burgos and Castilla y León through the creation of companies, training centres, international competitions, educational programmes, itinerant festivals, mediation projects and stable cultural structures.


In 2025, he received the Premio Legado in Ávila, and CIDANZ Producciones was awarded the Performing Arts Award of Castilla y León for Best Dance Production. He has also received the Premios Diálogo 2020 and the Premio Moretti 2009, and was a finalist for the GESCUL Awards in 2019.
